| Caregivers |
Anyone in a stable home setting (owned or rented) may apply to be a caregiver. You may already be caring for someone on MassHealth (other than spouse) who qualifies as an Adult Foster Care client.
- What are the physical requirements for a
home? The home must be clean and in good repair. There must be a separate room with window and door for the client. Bathroom may be shared.
- Does my home have to be handicap accessible?
Only if the client requires such accessibility. Often our clients are fully ambulatory.
- Do I have a choice of client? Yes. Our program is completely voluntary. There is a thorough matching process during which client and caregiver get to know each other and decide if the match is right for them
- What geographic area is eligible? We are in Massachusetts and generally cover Essex County towns. If you live outside that area, contact us to find the program nearest to you.
- May I be a caregiver if I have a job? It depends. Often our clients have programs or jobs themselves during the day. If your schedule allows time for proper client attention and care, a job does not disqualify you as a caregiver.
- Who pays? The client pays a room and board charge (like rent) directly to the caregiver, and Adult Foster Care (through MassHealth) pays a stipend that is usually between $750 and $1500 per month depending on level of care. The stipend is tax free.
- How do I find out if I am right for the
program? Contact us for information. We are available to answer your questions.
