At Adult Foster Care of the North Shore, we are always inspired by organizations that share our commitment to care, compassion, and community. Recently, we had the opportunity to attend a Veterans meeting in Danvers, where we connected with an incredible local organization doing meaningful work for our nation’s service members—Operation Troop Support.
While we didn’t capture photos from the event, the impact of the meeting—and the people we met—left a lasting impression.
A Chance Meeting with a Powerful Mission
At the meeting, we met Dick Moody, founder of Operation Troop Support, who leads weekly gatherings focused on supporting veterans and active-duty military members. His passion and dedication were immediately clear, and we were moved by the scope and longevity of the organization’s work.
Operation Troop Support was founded in 2003 by Lt. Col. (Ret.) Dick Moody and his wife, Christine, during the early days of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. With two children serving in the U.S. Air Force at the time, the Moodys saw firsthand the needs of deployed troops and recovering service members.
What began as a small effort—sending books, snacks, and personal items to wounded soldiers—quickly grew into a nationally recognized nonprofit with a powerful mission: “Help Us Help Them.”

Making a Meaningful Impact—One Care Package at a Time
Over the past two decades, Operation Troop Support has made an extraordinary difference:
1.5 million+ care packages sent
450+ military units supported worldwide
Up to 150 packages shipped each week
Ongoing support for both deployed troops and recovering service members
Each care package is thoughtfully assembled with items that provide comfort, connection, and a reminder that those serving our country are not forgotten. From toiletries and clothing to games and reading materials, these packages offer both practical support and emotional encouragement during challenging times.
A Community Effort That Brings People Together
One of the most inspiring aspects of Operation Troop Support is how it brings communities together. Their work is powered by volunteers, donations, and partnerships with individuals, civic groups, and organizations who all share a common goal: supporting those who serve.
This spirit of collaboration deeply resonates with our work at AFCNS. Just as we support caregivers and individuals in our community, Operation Troop Support reminds us of the importance of showing up for others—especially those who sacrifice so much.
Why This Matters
At AFCNS, we serve individuals and families who understand the value of care, stability, and support. Many of the people we work with have connections to military service, caregiving, or community-based support systems.
Meeting organizations like Operation Troop Support reinforces something we believe wholeheartedly: Small acts of care—when done consistently and collectively—can create a powerful ripple effect.
Get Involved
Operation Troop Support welcomes community involvement in many ways, from donating items to volunteering time or supporting their fundraising efforts. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, we encourage you to learn more and consider getting involved.
